4th XI for 2018!

Wednesday 22nd November 2017

We are delighted to announce that the club is entering a 4th XI for the 2018 season. This development has come about from the ‘folding’ of Newforge Cricket Club, and the result of this is that there are approx. 15 adult players joining the club. The 4th XI will take the place for Newforge 2nd XI in Junior 5 which is the same league as our 3rd XI – A couple of ‘Super Sundays’ will be on the agenda! As with all new recruits we would like to welcome Sreejesh and the...

2nd XI & 3rd XI Reports

Tuesday 07th November 2017

2nd XI - Phil Stewart The seconds had a decent season but it couldn’t really be described as any more than that. Despite finishing second in the league, unavailability hindered the chance to realistically challenge eventual league winners Carrickfergus. Of the fourteen league games scheduled this year, we won eight, lost four and had two matches washed out due to the wet weather we had towards the end of the season. After last season’s cup final defeat, we couldn’t quite rep...

1st XI - Captains Report

Wednesday 25th October 2017

2017 proved another successful season for the 1st XI as some dominant performances throughout gave us a second place finish in Section One and a T20 finals day at the Lawn. However I would suggest, as I am, that most will probably feel disappointed that we did not finish in top position of Section One. Ultimately we finished with a credible 12 wins from 18 league games. In respect of cup competition we were convincingly beaten by Premier League opponents Muckamore at the Quarter final stage of t...

Pro-less Woodvale take second spot

Sunday 24th September 2017

In an era where money is (allegedly) being thrown at any player with a modicum of talent, it is refreshing to see Pro-less Woodvale sit securely in second spot of section one of the NCU. But for a couple of silly slip ups, it could have been Premier League cricket at one of the best equipped dedicated cricket stadia in the country next season. Anyway, back to the match report. In let’s say, Moist conditions at Uprichard Park, the fixture having been swapped as Woodvale was even &lsquo...

1st XI beat Holywood

Sunday 03rd September 2017

When you get a lovely sunny day, as Saturday was, there’s no better place to be than at the home of cricket in North Belfast, Woodvale Cricket Club. Although the past few weeks have been a real challenge for the groundsman, the stadium looked a picture in the early September sunshine. Conditions may not have been ideal but, play started on time after Jamie had won the toss and inserted a strong looking Holywood side on a pitch he knew would only get as the day went on. The ...

Final Youth Night & BBQ

Monday 04th September 2017

Our youth cricket scheme, sponsored by HNH, came to a close on Friday 18th August. The scheme ran over the Summer for 12 weeks, and on average we had between 30 to 35 children attending on Friday nights. On the final evening we also had a BBQ for both the kids and their parents even though the heavens opened just as we started serving the food! The led coaches this year where Stephen ‘Duck’ Donnelly and Lewis ‘Prso’ Adair to whom the cricket committee and the club are ...

Weekend Review - 19 August

Monday 21st August 2017

1st XI Batting, Pathetic! I think it’s only fair when I made a similar remark a few weeks ago about a poor Downpatrick second XI that the same word is used about the effort of a Woodvale 1st XI chasing 101 in 50 overs. On a weekend were numerous games were called off due to the volume of wet stuff from the heavens, Downpatrick was playable and although the pitch was once again a very used one, at least it was dry and some level of play was possible. Woodvale won the toss and

Weekend Review - 12 August

Monday 14th August 2017

Michael and Tucker come to the party! In a week where Woodvale were accused of being party poopers the 1st XI celebrated in style with a resounding victory over neighbours Cliftonville at Ballygomartins ever improving cricket Stadium. Not for the first this season ‘Tucker’ Hill grabbed a fistful of wickets 5-36 to take his tally for the season so far into the forties. He was well supported by big Baz Robinson 1 for 12 off his 10 and Ferhan Saeed 2-22. Cliftonville were deep i.....

Title challenge falters

Monday 07th August 2017

Title hopes take a knock in thriller A superb Captains knock of 84 from Jamie Gibson wasn’t to be enough to clinch victory over Armagh at The Mall in the top of the table fixture. Armagh had elected to bat on the damp pitch with rain forecast for later in the afternoon and expectations were high when Ferhan Saeed (3-27) grabbed early wickets. The main threat to Woodvales hopes came from the lofty J. Barnes, so when Timmy Browne (2-28) had him well held in the deep by Tucker H...ill...
